Ageism is a real thing. So is needing to have a job. In the youth-oriented entertainment industry, older professionals – especially women – can suddenly find themselves aged-out of their own career. Every day we hear stories about talented, experienced women over 50 who, just to make ends meet, have taken jobs far below their experience level, because that’s what was available. How frustrating to be relegated to the perimeters, what an incredible waste of experience and talent.
And yet, if we’re honest, many of us don’t want to stay in the 24/7 rat race, or aren’t interested in super-heroes, or have family commitments that take precedent right now. Our generation has never been held back by societal norms, and our aging is no different. We want to shape our own futures and define for ourselves what it means to age in Hollywood. And the more we share our experiences and ideas, the smarter we can be about taking the right next steps. We’re glad to have you here.
