GreenLight Women and Netflix partnered to screen the Golden Globe® winner and nominee and Academy Award® nominated film The Life Ahead, and on March 18, 2021, hosted a Q&A with the film’s director, Edoardo Ponti. Ponti is the son of Oscar® winner and cinema legend Sophia Loren, who is also the star of the film.

The Life Ahead  is the story of  Holocaust survivor Madame Rosa (Loren) who runs a daycare business in seaside Italy.  Madame Rosa forms an unlikely friendship with a bitter 12-year-old Senegalese Muslim street kid, Momo (Ibrahima Gueye), when she takes him in after he robs her.  The two loners become each other’s protectors, anchoring an unconventional family.  The Life Ahead  is based on the book by Romain Gary


The Life Ahead
 won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for “Io Si”, written By Diane Warren, Niccolo Agliardi and and Laura Pausini, and it was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.  The Oscar nomination was also for Best Original Song.
 
Ms. Loren was awarded Best Actress in AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards, and the Alliance of Women Film Journalists named her Best Actress Defying Age and Ageism.
